Mutual Aid & Community Care – breaking the bonds of “personal” finance.

Hi there! 👋 I’m Miranda and I’m trying something new. I’ve worked in various segments of the personal finance industry over the last 15 years and, where I once was pretty adamantly a capitalist, my views on money and economics have dramatically shifted.

Over the course of my career, I’ve done a lot of research on money management, budgeting, and investing. But as my values have evolved, I’ve noticed a glaring omission in popular financial discourse: comprehensive information on how to exist as an anticapitalist in an explicitly capitalist world.

This blog will discuss what it means to be anticapitalist, both to me personally, as well as broader views such as socialism, communism, and collectivism as a whole. I’ll also talk about ways to “offset” our participation in capitalism, and even talk more broadly about how we (white Americans) can start decolonizing the spaces we occupy.

These are heavy topics and I won’t always get it right. I will share perspectives from Black Americans and people indigenous to North America on how we can actively redistribute our wealth, but a lot of my suggestions will still fall within some aspect of capitalism with the ultimate goal of seeing it completely dismantled. 🤗
